This week we will be dipping into the government of the United States. This will coincide with Statehood unit. We will be learning the basics of the 3 branches, how to make a bill become law, and bring the information together with a governmental game.

This week is going to be the week you put your research to work! You are going to be creating a paper doll, dressed in traditional clothing from your country, and add 3 things that represent your country. Be prepared for greatness!
Also, you will have the opportunity to experience Ellis Island for yourself! You will be an immigrant, facing possible deportation, as you go through the process to become an American citizen! MONDAY: No School - President's Day TUESDAY: Research Due!, Paper Doll WEDNESDAY: Paper Doll - NO Newsday :) THURSDAY: Ellis Island! FRIDAY: Paper Doll This week we are going to start in on our immigration project. We will have the students log onto pioneer.uen.org and do research on the country their ancestor came from. If they work on the research at home it will require a password which can be found on their research paper. When this is finished, we will have them begin on their project!
MONDAY: Review immigrants, Country Research TUESDAY: Quiz! WEDNESDAY: Newsday, Country Research THURSDAY: Country Research/Project FRIDAY: R&S Topics for Quiz: why we want to become a state (territory vs. state), roadblocks to statehood (all 7), and immigration (Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Greek) This week is when we start learning about the major immigrant groups that came to Utah.
